Another less than glorious reminder of Cambodia’s past is the ruthlessness of the Khmer Rouge in the Landmine Museum. Cambodia was at war with Vietnam at that time and so the Khmer Rouge made sure that the Vietnamese troops will not gain a foothold inside Cambodian territory, so they planted landmines all over the place. Many are still hidden in the jungles to this day and some people, even children have lost their limbs as they accidentally stepped on one of these landmines. The museum’s founder was a former Khmer Rouge soldier who was forced to join their ranks, but is now rehabilitated and he also founded a school besides the museum to take care of victims of the landmines.

See the ancient ruins of a Hindu temple known as Preah Vihear. Cambodia in the past were an offshoot of the Hindu people and that is why they carried their traditions even when they migrated east. It’s an amazing sight to see.

87. Bamboo Trains

Once long ago after the French left Cambodia the people in remote provinces used the railroads left by the French colonizers as a means of transportation by using bamboo trains. Today, however, with new roads built to access those parts the bamboo trains would have been decommission as there was no more use for it. But thanks to the tourism industry it was revived to let tourists ride and experience this clever way of using the rail tracks.

88. Dare to Eat like a Khmer

They say that Asians have a weird menu, well, you should try Khmer food and then check to see if it is really weird. Grubs, bugs, and other creepy crawlies are on the menu. The balut (it is about-to-be-hatched black chicks, complete with tiny beaks and claws) a giant tarantula and fried pig intestines are also served as side dishes.

89. Have a Massage at a Blind Clinic

Nearly 150,000 people in Cambodia are blind. The poverty level in the country is somewhat severe that people can’t even get proper medical care to treat their blindness before it got worse. Still they are not all that useless, because they automatically get massage training from the government so they could make a living. If you happen to visit Cambodia, get a massage in one of their blind clinics. You’ll be doing them a huge favor and you’ll feel refreshed afterwards.

90. Drink on Street 172

How would you like to go on a sports pub that has a pool on the backyard where you can hang out? There is a street called 172 in Phnom Penh where these super cool bars exist. You can watch sports events on a big flat screen TV, bet on a pool game, eat barbeque food, drink beer and more.

91. Slow Down and Smell the Mekong

Hire a cyclo bike to take you on a stroll by the side of the Mekong River in a slow and leisurely manner. The cyclo bike is a three-wheeled bicycle where the passengers sit in front and the driver push the bicycle from behind.

92. Get Stuck in a Traffic Jam

The traffic in Phnom Penh can only be described with one word, “chaos!” This is especially true during peak hours. The pecking order is bicycles to the far-right, then moto-scooters, next tuk-tuks, and finally cars and SUVs. So you can just imagine the mess that this kind of transportations make when they try to outmaneuver each other on the road just to get out of the traffic jam.

93. Try Fried Tarantula in Skuon or “Spiderville”

Who in their right mind would want to eat a tarantula? Well, apparently the Cambodians do! They even like it fried. Go to Skuon or otherwise known as, “Spiderville” and get yourself a tarantula treat – if you dare.

94. Fish Pedicure in Siem Reap

Fish pedicure is believed to have originated in the Middle East and is particularly famous in Turkey, Syria, Iran and Iraq. But you can also find it in Siem Reap and they offer a somewhat fun way to clean the dead skin off of your feet. You should try it!

95. Jungle Homestay in Chambok

Try a completely new tourist attraction, well; actually it’s more like a challenge to spend the night in a village in the jungle. You’ll spend the night in a communal room and share a mattress with other people under a mosquito net.

Cambodia has enjoyed peaceful times now ever since the Khmer Rouge was overthrown and a new democratic government was installed. However, the weapons that the dictator government of Pol Pot is still around, so the Cambodian government decided to also include them as part of the tourist attraction. If you’ll go to Phnom Penh’s extreme outdoor shooting range which is just some 60 kilometers from the city, then you’ll have the opportunity to shoot high powered machine guns, handle a grenade and fire a bazooka!

Kickboxing is a famous sport that originated in Thailand and Cambodia during the time of the Khmer Empire. It is also called Khmer kickboxing and is one of the best forms of martial arts. Foreigners can learn the art of Khmer kickboxing at Paddy’s Gym in Phnom Penh.

99. Go on a Boat Cruise to see the Sunset

There is a $5 boat cruise in one of the ferries that traverses the Mekong River during sunset. This is a perfect opportunity to watch the sunset as well as the city skyline from a few hundred yards out in the river.
